The Association was formed in 1985 under the name The Beccles Traders Association with its membership mainly consisting of retail businesses in the town centre. In 1997 its name changed to the Beccles Business Association (BBA) to bring it in line with similar organisations in East Anglia and to encourage a more diverse membership. In 2012 the BBA voted to incorporate the local Tourism Group and is now currently known as the Beccles Business & Tourism Association (BBTA). This merger has ensured that all aspects of the local economy are combined and working together under one central Association.
The BBTA has active and positive links with the local Beccles Town Council, Waveney District Council and Suffolk County Council who actively seek the business communities opinions. Recently the BBTA were involved with the setting up of the new Enterprise Zone. We are also members of the local Waveney Business Forum, The Waveney Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses which all provide advice and guidance for businesses plus networking events which ensure that information is shared and enables promotional opportunities.
The BBTA has been responsible for attracting funding into Beccles, such as the recent LEADER funding in partnership with the Beccles Town Council and the Regeneration Company. This funding was used to provide updated new signage in and around the town, a new website for the BBTA and Beccles Town Council and interactive tourist guides. It currently manages and runs the Beccles Tourist Information Centre and Beccles Tower. In addition to this we have regular monthly meetings, business breakfasts with guest speakers, social events and actively support local projects such as The Beccles Lido and The Public Hall. Also the BBTA in conjunction with Beccles Sea Cadets stages the annual Beccles Christmas Lights Switch On. In 2012 the BBTA were actively involved in the Town Centre Study; a commissioned research project carried out by Waveney Towns to collect data on footfall, car parking and shopping trends. The results are due out soon and will provide us with some key information on which to progress with out 2013 local business vision.
Please use this new website to further your information on what is on offer in Beccles and the surrounding areas in the Waveney Valley and beyond. Make it your destination for this year as it’s a good base to visit the whole of East Anglia.
Our current vice chair is Christine Pinsent who has her own independent business in the town: Saxons Alternative Therapy Centre and can be contacted on 01502 715771 or email@example.com
We are proud that we are an active and welcoming business association and look forward to 2016 as one of local opportunity. The BBTA meet every month on the last Tuesday at 6pm (please check monthly venue with the chair).
